A few doors away from Hotel V… is Casa Alegre , home to Annie B’s Spanish Kitchen, run by Vejer’s delightful food guru, Annie Manson. This renowned cooking school was born out of Annie’s passion for sharing the gourmet delights of Vejer de la Frontera and the surrounding areas, including its food, wine and Sherry. Whether you are an experienced cook or someone who just enjoys great company, food and wine and whether you are here for several days or even just a day, you will experience the culture of this fabulous area of Andalucia through its stunning food, wine and Sherry.
A day class with Annie B is filled with fun and adventures that go way beyond the kitchen. You will have a chance to immerse yourself in the village life. This is the real thing – you can absorb Andalusian life by shopping at local markets, meeting the growers and experiencing all the tastes, smells and colors of Spanish cuisine. Learn about (and sample) the freshest fish and seafood, the very best Spanish ingredients, divine deserts and glorious tapas. It is guaranteed that you will discover a whole new world of flavors and food combinations, where less is more and the key ingredients are simplicity and quality.
Come for just one day or indulge in a series of classes. Annie’s Cooking Holidays offer several different package plans, some of which include fun local explorations such as visiting a bodega in Jerez, Tapas tours of Vejer and Cádiz, a Guided tour of Cádiz and of course local market visits.
Cooking classes are fun for all ages and for all occasions. Whether you come as a group, as a family, as a couple or by yourself, there’s no doubt that your day will be full of shopping, chopping, eating, drinking and lots of laughing. You will leave armed with lots of new recipes and ideas having filled your day here with an explosion of inspirational tastes and smells.
In October 2011, Annie qualified as a Sherry Educator and huge emphasis is put on Sherry – the famous wine of the area, featuring not only as an ingredient in the cooking but always your first reviving drink of the day. Annie offers specific Sherry and food matching classes which last for two hours and are normally held in the early evening.
No cooking in Spain experience would be complete without dabbling in Fino, Manzanilla, Amontillado, Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel.
